My iMPACT Wrestling, November 10th 2011 Recap

Roode opened things up as he explained that he screwed his former tag partner James Storm for the World title the previous week because chances at the World title are rare so he had decided to make “the best of my opportunity.” An understandably angry Storm made his way out, bulldozing through the security as he did. But before he could lay his hands on Roode he had already scarpered out of the ring. Sting in his new role as the general manager of iMPACT or whatever the title is (which he’s suited very well so far in my opinion) announced that there would be a World title rematch between Storm and Roode that night.
Crimson defeated The Pope in a mediocre match up. I remember a while back when  D’Angelo Dinero would get huge reactions from the crowds. I don’t think they ever should’ve turned him heel when they did last, it was unnecessary and just muddled up the fans reaction to him.
Garrett Bischoff versus Gunner ended in a disqualification when Flair ran into the ring during the match and pushed the referee out of the way. Before that Garrett had mounted most of the attack against Gunner, much to the surprise of his dad and Flair plus the commentary team. I still think it’s utterly ridiculous that they have this new popular babyface in Garrett with potential and yet he runs away scared form the way past it Flair every time he confronts him. Surely by this point Garrett wouldn’t be scared of some guy in his sixties? But that’s Flair’s ego for you.
We then went backstage to witness a bloodied and beaten up James Storm lying in his dressing room.
Jesse Sorensen defeated Zema Ion in a short but entertaining X Division bout. I still have doubts over Sorensen’s level of charisma, but Ion looked pretty solid here. I’d like to see him more regularly on iMPACT in the future.
Afterwards Kid Kash joined Sorensen and gave another boring, cliche promo that could have some straight from the seventies where he went on about how Sorensen had done nothing and needed to earn his stripes. I like Kash in the ring but they really should limit his time on the mic from now on. He also announced that at Turning Point it’ll be a three way between both of them and the X Division champ Austin Aries for the title. As the two began to fight Aries ran out and helped out Kash to take out Sorensen. Can’t say I’m particularly hyped for that championship match on Sunday.
Gail Kim and Madison Rayne (c) defeated Velvet Sky and Mickie James to retain the Knockouts Tag Team titles in a clumsy at times but okay match. The finish came after Karen Jarrett who had accompanied the champs distracted the ref, allowing Rayne to try but fail in attacking Velvet who applied her finisher to Madison but then gave Gail Kim an opportunity to apply her finisher the Eat Defeat to Sky for the one-two-three.
Eric Young and Ronnie from the Jersey Shore defeated Robbie E and Rob Terry in a tag team match that was actually more entertaining then I had expected. Nothing spectacular but not a bad effort by the guys involved.
Backstage all seven members of Ink Inc and Mexican America began to brawl until Mexican America decided to back away. Unusual finish to a fight backstage I thought, right?
AJ Styles defeated Christopher Daniels in the match of the night. AJ won after RVD thwarted Daniels attempt to attack Styles with a screwdriver he found under the ring by snatching it off him at ringside, allowing Styles to hit the Styles clash for the pinfall.
Abyss, Jeff Hardy and Mr. Anderson defeated Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner and Bully Ray in a pretty mediocre match up for the most part. I still can’t understand this renewed push in the lump Abyss, what do they see in the guy? He’s an average character and average in the ring, nothing special.
Before the Bobby Roode (c) versus James Storm match for the World title there seemed to be no sign of the previously assaulted Storm. His entrance theme played a couple of times before a still-bloodied up Storm made his way out slowly to the ring and suddenly raced in to attack his opponent. After the outburst Storm then began to fade and just collapsed to the mat from the apparent loss of blood. The referees called for an ambulance and even signalled a fake cross sign to signal the seriousness of the injury. Roode even began to looked concerned and helped up Storm, but as he was he asked the ref if the bell had been rung to end the match, to which the referee answered“no.” After hearing that Roode quickly rolled up James Storm for the win and ran off as AJ Styles and Kazarian came out to check on their fellow Fortune member.
An irate AJ called Roode a “prick,” and asked Sting for a chance at Roode at Turning Point in three days, to which Sting obliged. I feel like this is a little too much short notice for the main event match of their next PPV and could have and should have gone down a week earlier. Should be an entertaining match up between the two though.
